Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

Alec Ounsworth had weathered a storm. As with every Clap Your Hands Say Yeah album, Burned emerged from the good and bad of life, with songs cataloging the journey from loss to renewed hope. Arriving six years after New Fragility, this seventh album is both a long-awaited return and an immediate collection of songs born from grief, confusion, and heartbreak. Following the dissolution of a relationship and the subsequent loss of his mother, uncle, and close friend, Ounsworth worked to step back from “negative writing” determined that Burned wouldn’t be ‘all doom and gloom’. After revisiting the feverish timbre of the artist’s first record on a 2025 anniversary tour, he wrote with the live experience in mind, crafting a vibrant, dynamic collection that picks up from the zigs and zags longtime fans have followed over two decades.

In a song that touches on generational trauma, lead single “Fever Of The Mind” pairs layers of synth riffs with lyrics about depression, alienation, and recurring cycles, while tracks like “Late Wish,” “Does Anybody Work Here?,” and the title track, “Burned,” showcase the album’s stylistic breadth. Ultimately, Burned captures the highs and lows of what we witness, lose, and accept as we figure out who we’ve become. Though it recognizes the burdens we carry, the album insists we keep going, holding those highs and lows together as color begins to flood back into our lives.
